>Playing With the Noise
Frequency & Direction & Dimensions

To gain more control over a texture inside the DTE you need to be able control the frequency, direction, and dimension. We'll start with frequency which is the easiest. Go into the DTE with the default texture. Add the noise "Voronoi Distance 1". As you can see from the preview the noise is pretty small and you can't see it very well. To fix this you need to adjust the frequency. If you click and drag the Noise Overal Frequency in the Noise Dialog Box you can adjust the freqency. Adjust the noise until the frequency is 30. You can also adjust each direction individually. You can click and drag the number for a fast adjustment or click the left or right arrow for precise adjustment. Adjust the Noise X Frequency to 80. Now alt click the number and it sets all of the other frequencies to the same number. Lets say you want to have a texture that looks fibrous. To do that with "Voronoi Distance 1" you should make one of the frequencies really small so that it elongates it. Adjust the Noise Y Frequency to 10. This makes a nice long texture much like the bark on a tree. Check Out Example 1 below.

If you want to change the direction of the noise you must change its rotation. Taking the same texture as above, click

Example:
The texture made above with brown color applied to it and then applied to a material.
